What are composite veneers?

Composite is an easy-to-work material that we produce in a range of colours. We often use it to fill cavities and to make veneers. With composite veneers, we apply a layer over your teeth to correct discolouration, broken teeth or misalignment.

Placing composite veneers

The process of placing composite veneers is simple and quick. There are several advantages to placing composite veneers.

Advantages of composite veneers

  • Composite veneers are relatively inexpensive.
  • Little to no tooth tissue is lost.
  • They can be placed in a single treatment.
  • They are often covered by supplementary dental insurance.

Treatment for having composite veneers fitted:

We divide the composite veneer treatment into several different steps. First, we determine the right colour. If you are only having a veneer placed on one tooth, we recommend choosing a shade that matches your natural tooth colour as closely as possible. Are you having veneers placed on all your teeth? If you wish, you can opt for a shade or two lighter.

We will then check whether it is necessary to grind away a thin layer of your natural tooth. If we do not do this, the tooth can become too thick. If necessary, we then grind the tooth and stick the veneer onto it, shaping it as required. Once we are satisfied with the shape, we harden the veneer using a special blue lamp.

Frequently asked questions about composite veneers:

What is the cost of composite and porcelain veneers?

The cost of veneers depends on your situation and the material you choose. To obtain a personalised cost estimate, please contact Tandzorg Kralingen in Rotterdam on 010 414 2248. You will find an indication of the prices for composite and porcelain veneers below.

Description Price veneers
Composite veneer € 100,- – € 150,- per tooth
Porcelain veneer € 450,- – € 900,- per tooth

Will my composite veneers be covered by my insurance policy?

The rates for veneers are set annually at a national level by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). Composite veneers are usually covered, at least partially, by supplementary dental insurance. Contact your health insurer to find out what your dental insurance covers.

How long do composite veneers typically last?

The lifespan of your composite veneers depends on your eating and drinking habits, as well as your oral hygiene routine. On average, composite veneers last around five to ten years. Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, last an average of fifteen to twenty-five years.

Is it painful to have composite veneers placed?

The process of placing composite veneers is simple, quick and usually painless. The dentist removes little to no tooth tissue. In some cases, however, it is necessary to repair the tooth first. If this is the case, you can always opt for a local anaesthetic.

What can and cannot you eat if you have composite veneers?

In principle, you can eat anything with composite veneers. However, we advise against biting into hard objects such as sweets or pens.

What are the disadvantages of composite veneers?

Composite veneers generally have a slightly shorter lifespan and discolour more quickly than porcelain veneers. They may also have a duller appearance.
