Crown
A crown is a cap made of metal and/or porcelain that fits precisely over a ground-down tooth. The cap is then cemented onto the tooth. A crown restores the tooth’s original shape and function. Full ceramic crowns, in particular, are indistinguishable from natural teeth.
Bridge
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. It is attached to two or more abutments. These are teeth that have been ground down on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth or molar. A bridge consists of two or more crowns that fit onto the abutments, as well as a bridge section — also known as a ‘dummy’. This contains one or more artificial teeth and/or molars that are placed in the gap.

Veneers
Veneers can be used for a variety of reasons to improve the appearance of teeth. For example, they can be used to close gaps, repair broken teeth or cover discolouration. Read more about veneers and view a number of before-and-after photos.
Composite veneer
When applying a composite veneer, the dentist usually needs to grind away less of the natural tooth than with a porcelain veneer, and the cost is much lower. This is mainly due to the material used and the time it takes the dentist to place a composite veneer. Composite veneers only require one visit to the dentist.
Porcelain veneer
The process of making a porcelain veneer is much more labour-intensive than that of a composite veneer. The cost of the material and the labour involved in the work of the dental laboratory mean that a porcelain veneer is more expensive. However, porcelain veneers have the advantage of being much less sensitive to stains from coffee and tea, for example. In addition, porcelain veneers often produce a more aesthetically pleasing end result.
